People play games to change or structure their internal experiences. Adults enjoy filling their heads with thoughts and emotions unrelated to work or school. Others enjoy the challenge and chance to test their abilities.
Games offer an efficiency and order in playing that they want in life and those who play them value the sensations from doing new things such as dirt-bike racing or flying, that they otherwise lack the skills, resources, or social permission to do. The exciting and relaxing effects of games is very appealing and some apply its therapeutic benefits to calm down after a hard day or build self-esteem. People enjoy the feeling of challenge and complete absorption games have to offer. And sometimes, people use games as a way to escape from reality and enter a whole new world.

Why People Don't Play Games

Games are a vital part of not only children's lives, but the lives of any age group. However, many people don't play games, the reasons as to why differ depending on their situation. The number one reason why people stop playing is because of their job. Job responsibilities and raising families reduces game play turning some hard core gamers into non-players. Homework and schoolwork are also major time consuming factors that prevent children from being able to play.  Many never play as adults, finding games meaningless or a waste of time. Others reject games because of their moral theme or graphic violence. Some people even stay away from games because they think they are too addictive and believe it is better to not play than risk developing a bad habit.
